Iraqi police say a suicide bomber has blown himself up inside a police station in Diyala province, killing at least four people and wounding 16 others. Officials say the attack took place in a market police station in the town of Balad Ruz, about 70 kilometers northeast of Baghdad.
Earlier Wednesday, the U.S. military said it killed a top al-Qaida in Iraq terrorist in an operation in Al Anbar province last week.
A statement identified the man as Muhammad Abdullah Abbas al-Issawi and said he was an al-Qaida security chief in the region.
In a separate statement, the military said coalition forces detained six terrorist suspects during operations in the northern city of Mosul and near the towns of Salman Pak and Karmah.
Meanwhile, an insurgent group linked to al-Qaida in Iraq claimed responsibility for Monday's suicide bombings near Baquba that killed nine U.S. soldiers and wounded 20.
The group Islamic State of Iraq made the claim in an Internet statement Tuesday. - VOA News
