Lytham St Annes Choral Society presents Soprano Olivier Award winner Amanda Roocroft in a rousing rendition of Verdi's Requiem on May 6. Lytham St Annes Choral Society will celebrate its centenary in sensational style on Sunday May 6 with Verdi's Requiem, an Olivier Award winner and the Northern Chamber Orchestra.
LSA Choral Society has a long and rich musical history. It was founded in 1907 by local organist, Samuel Broughton, who remained as Musical Director for 39 years until his death in 1946. During its 100 years it has played host to many famous soloists, including the world-renowned contralto Kathleen Ferrier who was a member of the chorus during the 1930s before she rose to international stardom.
And now celebrated soprano Amanda Roocroft will take to the Grand Theatre stage in the Society's centenary year. Amanda recently scooped a prestigious Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera in English National Opera's Jenufa.
Verdi's Requiem will also star contralto Jane Irwin, tenor Jeffrey Lloyd Roberts and baritone Wyn Pencarreg while Andrew Barratt will conduct the Northern Chamber Orchestra. Andrew is also celebrating his 30th season as Musical Director of LSA Choral Society this year.
The world-famous Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi is a dramatic and moving musical setting of the Roman Catholic funeral Mass and was completed to mark the first anniversary of the death of Alessandro Manzoni - an Italian poet and novelist much admired by Verdi.
