
UEFA have fined Manchester United 21,300 euros following crowd disturbances at the UEFA Champions League match in Rome on 4 April. Their hosts, AS Roma, have been fined 47,700 euros.
The much-publicised skirmishes at the Stadio Olimpico involving fans, stewards and police have led to the following statement being posted on UEFA.com this (Wednesday) evening:
"The UEFA Control & Disciplinary Body have today taken action after fans of both clubs lit fireworks and threw missiles during the game at the Stadio Olimpico, as well as being involved in general crowd disturbances.
"Roma, who won the game 2-1 before a 7-1 defeat in the Manchester return, have been fined CHF75,000 (€47,700) while United will have to pay CHF35,000 (€21,300).
"Both clubs have three days in which to appeal after receipt of the written grounds for the decision."
