Cycling: Korean Kang careers to keirin crown

Posted December 16th, 2006 by COBA

Korea's Kang Dong Jin has won the final race of the Doha 2006 track cycling competition by winning the men's keirin title.

Kang qualified in the first place through the opening two rounds - although four of his fellow riders were eliminated in the third heat of round 1 after a pile up and only two cyclists crossed the finish line.

Team sprint bronze medallist Kang won the eight-lap final ahead of Malaysian Busan 2002 silver medallist Josiah Ng Onn Lam, who collected his country's only cycling medal of the Games by striking silver again. Japan's Hiroyuki Inagaki took bronze.

It is Kang's third medal of Doha 2006. The 19 year-old had already won bronze medals in the individual pursuit and sprint.
