Volleyball: High five for Japan, seven heaven for Kazakhs

Wins for Japan and Kazakhstan secured fifth and seventh spots on the final day of volleyball action at Al-Rayyan Indoor Hall.

Japan beat IR Iran 3-2 and Kazakhstan out scored Bahrain 3-1.

The Kazakh team ended Bahrain's long tournament (25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 25-18) for their victory. Bahrain's tournament started on Monday 27 November at the qualification rounds and the extra workload took its toll on their tired team when they went down to a more focused Kazakhstan side.

Kazakhstan managed to take the first set 25-21 but it was a different story in the second set when Bahrain made Kazakhstan pay for the continuous net errors.

Bahrain jumped to an early lead before closing it out 25-23 to level the match at one set apiece

Their confidence expanded when Bahrain managed to string some games together but Kazakhstan posted a string of winners to seal the third set 25-21.

In a noisy start to the fourth set both teams exchanged celebratory cries every time a point was scored and the referee eventually warned them to control the celebrations.

The Kazakhs enjoyed the final cheer when they ran away with the last set 25-18 to take the match.

In the other match Japan needed five sets to claim fifth spot. They won the opening set 25-23 but the Iranians bounced back to take to second set by an equal score and then the third 27-25.

Japan levelled matters in the fourth set with a 25-22 win and comfortably won the deciding set 15-9 to claim victory.
