Outdoor Tour Of Wave Organ With Exploratorium

Take in the sounds of the sea and views of San Francisco with Exploratorium senior artist Peter Richards on a tour of the Wave Organ, an outdoor sculpture and sound. The installation opens Saturday, July 14, 2007, at 2pm

installation located at the tip of the jetty that forms the Yacht Harbor of the San Francisco and Golden Gate Yacht Clubs -- just across from the Exploratorium in the Marina district. On Saturday, July 14 at 2pm, tour this wonderful outdoor sound park with its creator.

Constructed from carved granite and marble salvaged from a demolished cemetery, this hidden oasis includes 25 organ pipes made of PVC and concrete leading into the bay. The impact of waves against the pipe ends and the slosh of water within the pipes create a subtle music in tune with its environment. The tour is of limited capacity; first-come, first-served.

Meet at the information kiosk near the main entrance to the Exploratorium. Warm clothes and comfortable shoes are recommended for the short walk from the Exploratorium to the Wave Organ. This event is presented in conjunction with Listen, a major new exhibit area now open to the public inside the Exploratorium. -- www.exploratorium.edu
