Musharraf, Karzai hold talks to check Taliban insurgency

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai are set to hold talks in Turkey to smoothen relations and formulate an effective strategy to check the Taliban insurgency.

President Musharraf and his afghan counterpart Karzai would hold a bilateral talks on Monday, media reports quoted Pakistani embassy officials as saying in Ankara.

"The summit meeting is crucial in thrashing out differences and evolving a joint strategy to fight terrorism," the official said.

Kabul accuses Islamabad of not doing enough to stop insurgents from crossing into Afghanistan from its tribal areas where it has found shelter with the locals.

However, Islamabad accuses its neighbor of shifting the blame for its failure in tackling the Taliban insurgents.

Ahead of the Ankara meeting, Musharraf in a recent interview with a Spanish newspaper flayed Karzai for "doing nothing against terrorism."

The Pakistani President is on a tour of three European countries.

Karazi, told mediapersons in Kabul that he was optimistic about the outcome of the Ankara summit.

"We attend this meeting to find a solution for a problem which is gripping Afghanistan, Pakistan and the region with good intentions. We hope to come up with good achievements," Karzai was reported as saying by a newspaper. - DDNews India
