Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad called Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and told him that Tehran will take part in next week's international conference on Iraqi security.
The announcement was made by al-Maliki's office as Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani flew to Baghdad for talks about the May 3-4 meeting in Egypt.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini earlier today said Larijani would discuss the conference with Iraqi government officials as Iran has "some questions and ambiguities about the agenda."
The conference is to gather Iraq's neighbors as well as Egypt, Bahrain, and representatives of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari told Reuters today that there is a "high possibility" Iran and the United States will hold bilateral talks at the conference.
