Northern India scorches under heat spell

North India continued to remain in the grip of an intense heat wave with temperatures hovering above the 40º mark, meanwhile the weather office has forecast partly cloudy skies for Tuesday with possibility of dust or thunderstorms.

Sriganganagar in Rajasthan was the hottest place at 46 degrees, followed by Churu at 45.1, Bikaner at 44.6, Jodhpur at 43 and Ajmer at 42 degrees Celsius. State capital Jaipur was also reeling under the blistering heat wave with the mercury shooting up to 43.7 C, almost 3 degrees above the average.

Delayed reports said that two persons died last week, taking up the toll to seven.

The day temperatures rose over fiver degrees in Punjab, Haryana and Chandidarh. Hissar in Haryana recorded a high of 45.6 degrees Celsius while Amritsar in Punjab registered 42.7 degrees.

It was another hot day for the Delhiites as the blazing summer sun kept the mercury at 40.4 degrees. However, easterly winds brought some respite from the scorching heat as people went about their routine jobs in the city. - DDNews India
