The man wounded - Kishori Lal - has been taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital suffered a bullet injury on right side of his chest. He belongs to the Dwarka area of Delhi and seems to be a property dealer.

The firing is believed to have taken place following an altercation between two groups of people due to some personal enmity. Three to four shots are believed to have been fired across the street about 200 metres from the PM's residence.

Police is suspected a case of personal enmity between the victim and the assailant.

Security agencies immediately swung into action and cordoned off the area.

It is not confirmed whether Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was present at his residence when the incident occurred. But security personnel are insisting that there is no threat to the PM.

Sources at the Tughlaq Road Police Station meanwhile have confirmed the incident but are refusing to divulge any details at the moment.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police spokesperson, Deependra Pathak clarified to the media that the initial inquiry into this incident suggests that this event has whatsoever no connection with Prime Minister or his residence. New Delhi Police is investigating this matter and will soon get to the bottom of it. The victim was fired at by a point blank range and the weapon has been confiscated.

A police control room van positioned at an adjacent petrol pump rushed to the spot, after a passerby informed the police about a person being shot at near the polo ground, and shifted the injured man to the hospital.

They found an abandoned Maruti Zen car with some cash and a pistol in it at the scene of crime.

It was not immediately clear whether the car belonged to the assailants or the victim, the sources said.

There were reports that the man could have been shot elsewhere along the road but had collapsed near the Jaipur Polo Ground, the sources said.
