Babies' death: Case against Kerala health minister

The police have registered a case against Kerala Health Minister P K Sreemathi and seven others complying with a court directive with regard to the death of new-born babies at a government-run hospital at Thiruvananthapuram.

The Medical College Police registered the case on the directive of Chief Judicial Mangistrate here to proceed against the minister and others in connection with the deaths of as many as 38 new-born babies over a month allegedly due to infections caused by unhygienic conditions at the SAT hospital attached to the medical college.

Issuing the directive on a private complaint, CJM S Soman on Thursday asked the police to take up the case under IPC sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) read with section 34 (common objective).

The others who named in the FIR include two SAT doctors, nursing superintendent and labour room assistants. - DDNews India
