Cameroon state radio says a Kenya Airways jetliner with 114 people on board has crashed in southern Cameroon. The radio report says the Boeing 737-800 jetliner, bound for Nairobi, went down near the town of Niete, in southern Cameroon, after taking off from Douala Saturday. There was no word on casualties.
Kenya Airways has not confirmed the report. The airline said it had lost contact with the plane shortly after takeoff. Officials say a distress signal was detected from the area where they believe the plane had gone missing.
The passenger jet had landed in Douala airport in Cameroon after taking off from Abidjan in Ivory Coast.
The airline has set up a crisis center to monitor events.
