Ten Tiger rebels killed in Sri Lanka clashes

At least 10 LTTE cadres have been killed and 15 others injured in two simultaneous clashes with the security forces in Sri Lanka's northern district of Mullaithivu, reports our Colombo correspondent KM Ravindran.

A spokesman at the Media Centre for National Security told AIR that the Naval patrol initially detected a cluster of LTTE boats heading towards Mullaithivu.

During the ensuing confrontation, two Tamil Tigers boats were completely destroyed and six other vessels damaged, the spokesman said.

There were more than 25 boats in the LTTE flotilla, he added.

While confrontation on the sea was on , Navy's ground troops located another LTTE troop movement at Thriyaya, 15 kilometers south-west of Pulmadai.

The spokesman said that a fierce small arm fighting followed and the Tamil Tigers were beaten back.

The spokesman added that the LTTE cadres whose attempted sea movements that were detected last night was their part of their strategy of shifting its cadres from Trincomalee and Batticaloa to Mullaithivu. - DDNews India
