EU-Turkey talks on the Cyprus issue suspended

The talks between the European Union and Turkey on the Cyprus issue have been suspended without adoption of any agreement, the Foreign Minister of Finland Erkki Tuomioja informs.

The EU representatives have already declared that the deadlock of the talks can result in the failure of Turkey to join the European Union. The EU anticipates that before December 6 Turkey will open its ports for Cyprian ships.

Yesterday the Finnish Foreign Minister had separate meetings with his Turkish and Cypriot counterparts. In the Minister's words, the terms of the new round of negotiations have not been set so far, and the EU should decide what it will do regarding Turkey's application to join the EU.
