Comcast To Offer One-Stop Voicemail, Email, Contacts, Calendar

Later this year Comcast will open new web based service called SmartZone that will integrate voicemail, email, address book and calendar all in one.

Comcast is a large US based broadband, cable TV and cable telephony company. It has around 24 million basic cable subscribers, 12 million Internet subscribers and 2.4 million cable telephony customers. SmartZone will unite all users and will be available for both high speed internet users and digital phone users.

This service comes to make Comcast's services better for existing subscribers and to involve new subscribers. There are lots of potentially concurrent satellite television operators and telephone companies that attract subscribers with email and voicemail services, but SmartZone will beat all of them with this new integrated service.

"It's about making our products work better together wherever you want them available," said Catherine Avgiris, senior vice president of voice services at Comcast. "Customers can use that functionality to simplify their lives, helping us maintain that relationship and loyalty with them," she added.

SmartZone is the result of collaboration of Hewlett-Packard, Zimbra and Plaxo. Zimbra is a three years old open source software company that is responsible for SmartZone's messaging software. Plaxo is responsible for easy to manage, interactive address book. Hewlett-Packard will plan and build the software.
