Microsoft launched its newly upgraded version of Live Hotmail. The web-mail is available in 36 languages for the users all around the world.

Hotmail was established in 1996 and became the pioneer of web-based e-mail since then. It has around 280 million users. But it still had to upgrade its services to catch up with Yahoo and Google. According to the statistics provided by comScore Media Metrix in April 47.5 million people used Hotmail, 81 million people used Yahoo, 14 million people used Google.

The new Live version of Hotmail gives a user 2 gigabytes of storage capacity, built-in instant messaging, right-click and drag-and-drop capabilities, auto-complete addressing. Built-in instant messaging means that if one of the persons from your contact list is online, Hotmail drops you a message and you can start conversation immediately.

Users will be free to customize Hotmail preview pane and to access their e-mails via mobile devices. Live Hotmail users will also be able to check their e-mail via Outlook e-mail client for free. Outlook will also make web-mail's address book fully accessible.

Steve Berkowitz, Senior Vice President of Microsoft's Online Services Group, said, "We're thrilled to deliver Windows Live Hotmail to the more than 280 million active MSN Hotmail accounts around the world. Windows Live Hotmail represents an extremely compelling end-to-end e-mail experience that makes it easy for customers to get best-of-breed e-mail access across PCs, mobile devices, and the Web."

Live Hotmail has also enhanced its security services: it has an indicator of senders, when it is white that mean the sender is know, when it is yellow the sender is unknown, when it is red the sender is potentially fraudulent. Web-mail also has spam protection, and users can delete junk mails, report messages as spam to help Microsoft make their services better for users.
