Dyer and the Fresno Police Department had been in constant communication with Fresno State President John D. Welty and University Police Department about the shooting that left one person dead and two wounded.
The suspect, student Jonquel Brooks, 19, of Hayward, turned himself in to police.
Dead is Brant Daniels, who was not a current student at Fresno State. The two injured men have been identified as Roderick Buycks, 19, a Fresno State student, and Drew Pfeiff, 22, not a Fresno State student. Both were treated at a hospital and released.
Welty and university officials closely monitored the situation as it unfolded throughout the morning and determined that the campus could remain open for classes.
"Based on the ongoing information we received from Fresno Police, we felt confident that the campus was not threatened,"Â said Welty.
