
The UK Autism Foundation recently joined with 10,000 people and over 130 partner organisations calling on Prime Minister Gordon Brown and the Government to End Child Poverty in the UK. According to the End Child Poverty Campaign 5.5 million children are in poverty.
UKAF supporters joined the massive End Child Poverty Campaign march and rally from Millbank to Trafalgar Square on Saturday 4th October. The march was a huge succes for the organisers.
The UK Autism Foundation called on the Government to increase the tax credits, the disability living allowance and the carer's allowance to help the vulnerable, the socially excluded and the marginalised. The UKAF maintains that there are many more families with autism who are now below the poverty line and the credit crunch is devastating families.
Ivan Corea called on Prime Minister Gordon Brown to help the vulnerable and the poor. The UK Autism Foundation has pledged to help the poor by creating a fund in order to give grants for families with autism who are below the poverty line. The UKAF also plans to build the first ever state-of-the-art Autism Centre in London and build an autism school on the eastern side of London.
Supporting the efforts of the autism charity is Lee Scott MP, patron who has pledged to raise the issues concerning autism in the House of Commons. Scott has been campaigning long and hard on autism in the Palace of Westminster.
Among those who marched on Saturday with over 10,000 people were Martin Narey, Lord Puttnam, Sophie Ellis Bextor and Hilary Fisher.
