UK Autism: Chancellor Alistair Darling urged to help the poor

A British charity, the UK Autism Foundation has appealed to the Chancellor of the Exchequer to reach out to families with autism who are below the poverty line in his second budget, on Wednesday 22nd April 2009.

Chancellor Darling will present the budget againt a backdrop of economic turmoil and a deepening recession. UKAF is urging the Chancellor to provide financial support to parents, carers, children and adults with autism and Asperger's Syndrome. The charity is maintaining that many families with autism are suffering as a result of the credit crunch and the economic downturn.

UKAF has been campaigning on behalf of the poor. There are 500,000 people with autism in the United Kingdom. According to UK researchers 1 in 100 children is on the autism spectrum.

The charity has called on Alistair Darling to increase the tax credits, the disability living allowance and the carer's allowance in the 2009 Budget and help struggling gamilies cope with the economic crisis.
