T-Shirt Upstart Rallies Artists for Charity

At 70*7 their mantra is "Creativity with a Heart for Giving." It's also their business model.

In the frothing market of "Let's print up a bunch of funny t-shirts and make some money," this company stands out. They commission genuine limited edition designs, hand-printed and sold online to raise money for causes selected by the artists themselves. Causes have ranged from First Candle/SIDS Alliance to Leary Firefighters Foundation, founded by actor/comedian Denis Leary, of the FX series "Rescue Me," and from the International Justice Mission to the Mocha Club.

This month, flanked by an impressive line-up of visual artists, 70*7 launches its first ever multi-artist Limited Edition Series to assist an LA couple with the costs of their daughter's cancer treatments. Ava Jaymes Cipriani was diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma on April 20th, 2006, her daddy's birthday. She was two-and-a-half years old. This form of cancer strikes just 1 in 400,000 children. 70*7 donates $15 from the sale of every Limited Edition t-shirt to charity, in this case http://www.awishforava.com.

After a year-long fight with her "cancer bug," Ava passed away on April 17th. Josh Cole, co-founder and Creative Director of 70*7, said, "My wife and I, and everyone on our team for that matter, are crushed by Ava's death. We want to honor her life by offering what we do to help with the out-of-pocket burden on her parents, Ally and Larry. Those treatments are not cheap. We understand the total bill was in the millions. This is simply an 'actions speak louder' way for us to put our money where our heart is."

Artists show their hearts, as well, licensing their art to the cause for free. Each design is printed on seventy highest-quality cotton tees and sold on the website. And when they're gone, they're gone. Artists in 70*7's "A Wish for Ava" series are Kathie Olivas, El Maz, Matt Sharp, Amy Sol, H, 5QR47CH and Adrian Pina. Designs by H and Kathie Olivas are available for purchase on the website. The Olivas art will also be on a Special Limited Edition hoodie and kid's tee, available soon exclusively at Monkey House Toys in LA. -70*70 industries
