Tony Nominees Already Known

Rock musical "Spring Awakening" was awarded with Tony nominations for best musical, book, score. The two young singers of the musical Jonathan Groff and John Gallagher Jr. got 11 nods and lots of applauses.

"Spring Awakening" is a drama about teen sexuality and is based on 19th-century text by Frank Wedekind. The book of the musical by Steven Sater and the score by Grammy nominee Duncan Shiek earned nominations.

10 nominations got both Tom Stoppard's trilogy about 19th-century Russian intellectuals "The Coast of Utopia" and a musical about two eccentric Long Island relatives of Jacqueline Onassis "Grey Gardens".

Christine Ebersole stars at "Grey Gardens" in two acts East Hampton socialite Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter "Little" Edie Beale. She earned her third Tony nomination. "I think the Beales would be absolutely over the moon about this," said Ebersole. "They were free spirits with a lifelong ambition to be artists. All they cared about was singing and dancing, so to be recognized in this kind of venue is absolutely fitting."

Eight nominations earned the musical "Curtains" with David Hyde Pierce starring, and seven nominations earned "Legally Blonde" and "Mary Poppins" musicals, that are both adaptations of renowned movies.

"A Moon for the Misbegotten" by Kevin Spacey from The Actor's London Theater Company did not even appear in the list of nominees. "The Vertical Hour" by David Hare was unlucky this year as well.

Nominees for musical lead actress were Laura Bell Bundy of "Legally Blonde" Audra McDonald of "110 in the Shade", Debra Monk of "Curtains" and Donna Murphy of "LoveMusik".

Nominees for musical lead actors were Raúl Esparza of "Company", Michael Cerveris of "LoveMusik", Hyde Pierce and Gavin Lee of "Mary Poppins."

The Tony nominations were read by actors Jane Krakowski and Taye Diggs at Lincoln Center
