Blewitt takes the head coaching responsibilities for both the men's and women's soccer programs
Neill McGeachy, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Lenoir-Rhyne College, has named Adrian Blewitt Director of Soccer. Blewitt, the current Head Coach of the L-R Men's Soccer Team, will now head up the women's program as well.
Blewitt just finished his second season at the helm of the men's squad and has compiled a record of 32-8-2 at Lenoir-Rhyne. In 2006, Blewitt led the Bears to their best season in school history with a 19-1-1 record and a national No. 5 final ranking in NCAA Division II. L-R also won the Food Lion SAC Tournament and earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Appalachian Regional Finals. For his accomplishments, Blewitt was named this year's South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Coach Of The Year.
"I feel our women's soccer program is in a similar position to that of our men's program two years ago,"Â said Blewitt. "There is no doubt we need to add some more talented players to the squad in 2007 if we are going to advance the program to a conference-winning level. When you have the academic and athletic excellence of Lenoir-Rhyne College behind you, you can recruit the highest levels of student-athletes, as we have shown with our men's program. I'm confident we'll turn things around quickly."Â
Prior to Lenoir-Rhyne, Blewitt served as Head Men's Soccer Coach at Lees-McRae (2002-04) and Methodist (1997-01) and has a career record of 110-79-5 as a collegiate mentor. Blewitt graduated in 1994 from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania, where he was a four-time all-conference honoree and led the team to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in 1992.
"Lenoir-Rhyne is fortunate to have among its many assets so talented a coach and leader as Adrian Blewitt,"Â said McGeachy. "We did not need to look far for the right choice."Â
A native of Grimsby, England, Blewitt and his wife, Tami, are the proud parents of one daughter: JoElle.
Blewitt takes over for Will Beddingfield, who resigned after seven years as Lenoir-Rhyne's Head Women's Soccer Coach (2000-06).
