Unite Launches Union TV

On May 18th Unite Amicus section will launch the first ever internet based video cast service from a trade union called 'Union TV' with an interview with Jon Cruddas MP, candidate for Deputy Leader of the Labour party.

Unite Amicus section's political committee are meeting today at Jury's Hotel, Great Russell Street, London to decide who they will recommend as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party.

In the first instalment Joint General Secretary, Derek Simpson will tell Unite members that he believes Jon Cruddas will be "a breath of fresh air". Mr Simpson believes all the candidates for the Deputy Leadership contest apart from one are allied to the Governments existing policies, turning people off the party.

Mr Simpson continued by saying,
"One stands out quite differently, that's Jon Cruddas......When you look at what he (Jon Cruddas) will stand for and is arguing for it is very difficult to see any difference between his platform and our policies."

In the interview Jon Cruddas will tell Unite members,"From employment insecurity, growth in the low-skilled economy and the threat of falling rates of pay, UK workers are suffering the effects of an intensive race to the bottom. The Labour Party needs to get back to basics and confront people's material insecurities. Addressing these issues should be the fundamental role of the Labour Party and the Labour movement. We cannot shy away from them."

'Union TV' is a new service which will be broadcasting the work and campaigns of the UK's biggest union straight to the homes and workplaces of over a million Members. -Unite
