Murray out of French Open

Andy Murray will miss the French Open after sustaining a bad wrist injury while playing in the German Masters Series tournament, his coach Brad Gilbert said.

The 20-year-old Scot was 5-1 up in his tie against Italy's Filippo Volandri when he suddenly pulled up in agony after hitting a forehand.

He was taken to hospital where damaged wrist tendons were diagnosed.

Murray has been told he must have complete rest if he is to have any chance of playing at Wimbledon in late June, so the world number 10 has decided not to try and play at Roland Garros, which gets underway on May 27.

"He's pulled the plug on the clay court season and we're hoping he'll be back and ready to compete at Queen's in a few weeks," Gilbert said. SOURCE: © 2007 Australian Broadcasting Corporation
