Whales Swimming Back To Pacific

The humpback whales already have nicknames Delta and Dawn. They attracted lots of tourist and press, who were crowded in Sacramento to see them and why not, to take a photo. But the environmental and wildlife expert want them to be back to the ocean, because thee is lots of food for them and the salty water can recover their wounds from boats.

Scientists have tried to call the whales back with recorded whale's food sounds, but it didn't work. So they had planned to frighten the whales with the sounds of boats, but they were very careful about it, because of two factors: the mother whale is with baby and they are both wounded.

So the not so good plan be got dumped because the whales started swimming themselves. Scientists think that they were frightened by tug boats' noises in Port of Sacramento. Now they are in a ship channel and they have only one way to go. They are swimming 6 miles-per-hour, and now the trouble for the scientists is to keep them swimming the right way. When they get into Sacramento Delta, it will be difficult to make them swim the right way because of blind alleyways and wrong turns.

The whales have more than 70 miles to get to Pacific. They have limited amount of fat, so they need to get back home and fulfill fat reserve. Scientists muss be watchful to keep the whales away from commercial vessels, recreational boats, they also must have ready plans in case if the whales turn the wrong way.

Scientist can't tell exactly what's going to be the whales' next move, they are just following them. The only thing they can do is to try understand the whales and to make them keep swimming.
