Michael Moore's new documentary film "Sicko" was opened at Cannes Film Festival in France. The film was warmly welcomed and earned lots of applauds.
This documentary focuses on U.S. health care system, which is unfairly cruel to U.S. citizens who deserve better treatment. Moore shows how a sick woman is chucked out of a hospital, because she is unable to pay her bills. He also asks why 50 million Americans have no health care coverage, and why many of those who DO have health care coverage still DO have problems with getting it.
As an example Moore took 9/11 rescue group workers, who had to work in New York after terror attacks and got ill. These rescue workers have proper health insurance but they didn't get it, so Moore traveled with them to Cuba, were the group got appropriate health care treatment.
Now U.S. Government is blaming Moore for illegally traveling to Cuba and is investigating this case as a Cuba travel ban violation. But Moore says that Government clearly new about his arrival to Cuba and didn't mention anything about it. Now, only 10 days before Cannes premiere, this question raises up.
"It is my profound hope that people will listen this time with this film because I don't want to wait ten or twenty years before we have universal health coverage in America and I don't want to wait before we as Americans take a look into our soul so that we can become better citizens in this world," Moore said. He also said, that he could even face prison.
In "Sicko" Moore brings Canada as a good example of health care treatment and social system.
Moore said. "When I look at Canada, the only long line I look at is that you get to live three years longer than we do. ... Why does a baby born into Toronto have a better chance of living to his first birthday than a baby in Detroit?"Â
"Sicko" is coming after Michael Moore's last two documentaries, which were recognized as the most successful: Bowling for Columbine was released in 2002 and Fahrenheit 9/11 was released in 2004.
