The Museum, which incorporates the Royal Observatory, Greenwich and Queen's House, was announced the Outstanding Customer Service Visitor Attraction of the Year in the presence of 700 guests from the leisure and tourism sector at a ceremony held at The Roundhouse, London.
It is the third year in a row that the Museum has been awarded for its outstanding customer service and Sharon is building on the success of Gallery Assistants Jim Bloomfield and Ann Stamper, who received the same award at the 2005 and 2004 ceremonies respectively. 2005 was also the year that the Museum won gold in the 'Large Visitor Attraction of the Year' category.
The Awards, which were presented by GMTV's Kate Garraway, aim to celebrate and reward the capital's top tourism businesses. Each winner must be deemed to show exceptionally high standards of visitor facilities and customer service.
The National Maritime Museum's Sharon Francis received the award ahead of competitors such as the Royal Albert Hall's Box Office team and the British Airways London Eye's Hospitality team. Sharon was chosen for the award based on her work with families, young people and school groups. Her particular interest in educating disabled children, particularly the deaf and autistic, played a key role in influencing the Museum's decision to nominate Sharon for the Award.
Director, Roy Clare was delighted by the NMM's triumph at the Visit London Awards, "The National Maritime Museum has world-class products and services for its growing audiences from across the globe. We also have world-class staff who take a real delight in striving for excellence in delivery. The team at the NMM have scooped this award three years running; Sharon Francis is this year's best of the best. I offer her and the team my warmest congratulations and thanks."Â
Chief Executive, James Bidwell, congratulated the Museum on the win and said: 'The Visit London Awards have become a truly world class event, and a great celebration of England's top tourism businesses and organisations. Many congratulations to our award winners, all of which contribute to making England a world-favourite travel destination.'
