NATO Opening Military Liaison Office In Serbia

NATO is due to open a Military Liaison Office today in the Serbian capital, Belgrade.

The establishment of the office comes seven years after NATO bombed Serbian targets during the 1999 air war to stop the Serbian crackdown against ethnic Albanians in Kosovo.

Officials say the NATO office is intended to help Serbia reform and modernize its armed forces and coordinate Serbian cooperation with NATO in the alliance's Partnership for Peace program.

The NATO office will be located in the Serbian Ministry of Defense building.
