Elena Dementieva became Ä°stanbul Cup 2007 Champion as Aravane Rezai retired in the second round due to injury.
After struggling and falling behind in the first set, Dementieva recovered to win the tiebreak 7-5. Rezai took a medical timeout in the second set while trailing 0-3 and retired due to left knee injury.
Earlier Aravane Rezai beat top-seeded Maria Sharapova 6-2, 6-4 to reach the final of the Istanbul Cup and will meet another Russian player, Elena Dementieva, in Saturday's final of the clay-court French Open warmup.
Dementieva beat fifth-seeded Alona Bondarenko 7-6 (5), 6-2.
"It feels great," the second-seeded Russian said. "Now I'm looking forward to my first final of the year."
The French Open starts Sunday.
