ArmenTel deprived of the monopoly on Internet access

The Public Services Regulatory Commission has restricted the ArmenTel monopoly on Internet services.

During today's sitting the Commission took the decision on implementing changes in the license #60 of ArmenTel CJSC. Particularly, the Company will be deprived of the monopoly on the international services of data transfer and voice communication.

Member of the Public Services Regulatory Commission Samvel Arabajyan clarified during the briefing that the given decision was dictated by statement of the current owner of ArmeniTel - VimpelCom Company - to refuse from all the monopolies of ArmenTel. He noted that henceforth Armenian providers have the right to provide international Internet access.

Samvel Arabajyan noted that this is the first step of liberalizing the Armenian communication market.
