Google Develops Video Tools For YouTube

Google hosted a Developer Day to discuss company's future products, innovations. Since Google has recently acquired YouTube video sharing website, the most discussed question was video content improvement.

Google has acquired YouTube in October 2006 for $1.65 billion. To integrate the two companies it will be moving from existing RSS feeds and REST/XML to a Google data-based API.

Four major music recording labels Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group, Sony BMG Entertainment and EMI have already signed agreement with Google to make their video available on YouTube without copy restriction. So the most common question now is application development especially for video.

The record labels will have revenue from the advertisements running while their video is playing. Google says, this a fair payment way for both recording companies and artists.

Google wants to have geographical video tool available, so that the recording labels will know which video is popular at a current geographical location.

Developers are welcomed with suggestions about video improvement, with any new fresh ideas. But Google's main points are "crop" and "red eye" editing tools. There are lots of professional applications for video editing and Google is not going to go deeply into editing details, but only into the mentioned two tools, because "crop" and "red eye" are the most needed tools for non professional users.

The next feature Google wants to provide is video upload to YouTube from devices such as mobile phones. This is also a common question for users. By Ruzan Harutyunyan for HULIQ
