Kevin Costner As Serial Killer In 'Mr. Brooks'

Kevin Costner has always been a good guy, but in the new movie 'Mr. Brooks' he is serial killer.

All his heroes in shoes his positive sides: "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves", "Field of Dreams", "Waterworld", "Silverado", "Wyatt Earp", "Revenge", "The Postman", "Bull Durham", "For the Love of the Game", "The Upside of Anger". And it is hard to imagine Kevin Costner playing a bad guy.

Earl Brooks is a businessman, a loving father and husband. He is Portland's, Oregon Man of the Year, a really charming guy. His wife is Marg Helgenberger and daughter is Danielle Panabaker. At the same time he is a serial killer, a habit that he is trying to give up.

He is addicted to murder and he can't give up the bad habit, so he creates a different person Marshall (William Hurt) in his mind to kill instead of him.

Once, after killing a couple, Mr. Brooks makes a mistake and leaves a witness Mr. Smith (Dane Cook), who also becomes addicted to murder. He doesn't want to kill, he just wants Mr. Brooks to kill and let him watch, because Mr. Smith gets unexplainable emotions while watching.

"You know, everybody keeps telling me what a radical departure this is for me, how brave it is for me to do a movie like this," says Costner. "But to me, that's not really a compliment because I see this as being of a piece with the projects I've always gravitated to. I've never played the same character twice, never done sequels, never grabbed for the easy buck. Nobody thought 'Dances with Wolves' was going to be a big audience hit, and the only guy who was still doing cowboy movies when I made 'Open Range' was Clint Eastwood."

"And I didn't do 'Mr. Brooks' to prove anything to anybody," Costner says. "I did it because I thought it was a hell of a good story. And I considered my job on this movie was protecting that story, to get it on the screen the way the writer intended. ...When I read it, it gave me the heebie-jeebies, you know. It disturbed me. I knew if we just could get the tone the writers (Bruce Evans and Raynold Gideon) had on paper, that balance of dark comedy and truly ugly violence up on the screen, we could make a good movie."

'Mr. Brooks' runs two hours and is R rated because of bloody scenes, sexual contentc, nudity and language.

Film's cast is fantastic: Demi Moore is the police woman Detective Tracy Atwood, who is in pursuit of him, William Hurt is encouraging Mr. Brooks to keep killing, Dane Cook.

"People who have only seen Dane Cook in those dumb comedies are going to be surprised by this, I think. And Demi Moore, people forget how good she is," said Kevin Costner. "I didn't have any idea how talented her husband Ashton Kutcher was when we made 'The Guardian' together. The problem for these young guys is that material like this is so watered down by the time it gets to them they don't have a chance to show what they're capable of." By Ruzan Harutyunyan for HULIQ
