Armenian FM and EU Representative Discuss Armenia-EU Relations

Vartan Oskanian, Ra Foreign Minister, and Peter Semneby, EU Special Representative for South Caucasus, touched upon Armenia-EU relations.

The press service of RA Foreign Ministry informed that they touched upon the implementation of the Armenia-EU cooperation within the framework of the European Neighborhood Policy.

Semneby stated that the coming parliamentary elections in Armenia should be fair and democratic. Oskanian confirmed the commitment of the Armenian authorities to invite international observers to the elections.

The sides exchanged views concerning Armenia's relations with its neighbors in the context of Oskanyan's December 17 visit to Iran. As for the Armenian-Turkish relations, Semneby said that in its report on Turkey's progress towards European integration to the EU emphasized the necessity of opening borders with Armenia.

Besides, Semneby told Oskanian about his December 17 meeting with Karabakh President Arkady Ghoukassyan. The sides exchanged views concerning the Karabakh conflict. German Ambassador to Armenia Heike Peitsch was present at the meeting, as well.
