IMAX Theatre Offers Holiday Film Fest

The IMAX Theatre is offering a film extravaganza this holiday season at the National Museum of the United States Air Force.

From Nov. 27 through Dec. 31, the IMAX Theatre will feature seven great films, with a different film shown each hour throughout the day. The schedule is as follows:

"Straight Up!" at 11 a.m. daily. Travel with helicopter crews as they respond to real-world needs, including high-voltage live-wire repairs, a high-sea rescue, a drug bust, endangered species relocation, humanitarian aid, military land-and-sea maneuvers and more.

"The Dream is Alive" at noon daily. Now considered an IMAX classic, this film includes footage of training, launches, landings and space walks shot by 14 NASA astronauts on three separate missions in 1984.

"Fighter Pilot: Operation Red Flag" at 1 p.m. daily. Follow young Air Force fighter pilot John Stratton as he makes his way through "Red Flag," the most complex, high-tech international military exercise conducted anywhere in the world.

"Space Station" at 2 p.m. daily. "Space Station" is the first cinematic journey to the International Space Station. Blast off into space with the astronauts and cosmonauts to rendezvous with their new home in orbit high above the Earth.

"The Magic of Flight" at 3 p.m. daily. Soar through the history of flight from the Wright brothers to the dramatic high-speed aerobatics of the world-renowned Blue Angels.

"Speed" at 4 p.m. daily. Find yourself gradually accelerating with the pace of discovery. You are walked, ran, peddled, driven, flown, rocketed and blasted through time and space until you find yourself at the edge of the universe and beyond.

"Volcanoes of the Deep Sea" at 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, plus additional showing at 5 p.m. Dec. 26 and Dec. 31. Scientists reveal the astounding sights that lie 12,000 feet below the ocean surface as they search for an ancient species that has been decorating the deep sea floor with strange hexagonal trademarks for millennia.

The National Museum of the United States Air Force is located on Springfield Pike, six miles northeast of downtown Dayton. It is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). Admission to the museum and parking are free.
