Starbucks Releases Paul McCartney's CD

Sir Paul McCartney released his 21st solo album 'Memory Almost Full' under Starbucks' Hear Music recording label. Music critics, press and fans warmly welcomed the CD and called it "vibrant" and "romantic".

The CD is recorded under Starbucks' label, which has a chain of 10000 coffee stores in 29 countries over the world, that will play McCartney's music. Starbucks has founded its Hear Music label with Concord Music Group in March, and Paul McCartney is the first artist to cooperate with the label.

Starbucks' 533 UK stores are not registered with Official Chart Company, so the CDs sold in its stores will not be counted for inclusion of top list. But analytics still think the CD will appear in the top list thanks to registered labels' retail stores and downloadable tracks such as iTunes. It is already the seventh in Amazon's top selling list.

"It is the most personal and revealing album that Paul has created in his solo career," said Ken Lombard, president of Starbucks' entertainment division. "It's such a reflection of his life and his career - the ups and downs, and the recognition of really what a remarkable journey it has been."

The contract with McCartney is only for this single album, but Lombard said, they hope to continue cooperation with the artist in future. Starbucks has estimated, that about 6 million CDs will be sold in its stores.

"The relationship is going very well between us, and it is our hope that Paul McCartney is feeling the same way," Lombard said. "When the time is right, we'll talk about what the next steps are going to be beyond this, but right now our focus is doing everything we can to ensure that 'Memory Almost Full' is an extraordinary success."
