SGX Kicks Off Its First Overseas Community Project

Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX) embarked on June 8th on its first overseas Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project, which will be an annual affair.

This series of projects supports and helps the communities that SGX touches in its business engagements.

In Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, this inaugural project involves staff participation and contributions. SGX is working with the Gentle Fund Organisation (GFO), a non-profit organisation set up by the Vietnamese community in Singapore, for this CSR effort.

With donations from staff, and SGX matching the staff contributions dollar-for-dollar, a total of S$53,496 has been raised. The funds raised will go towards the proposed building of a new library for the Long Hoa Orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City.

Some of our SGX staff also volunteered their time and effort at the Long Hoa Orphanage. These volunteers rolled up their sleeves to paint wall murals, do general maintenance work and interact with the 110 children at the Orphanage. Work started back in Singapore, where these volunteers and other SGX staff sacrificed their lunch hours to carry out preparatory work for this project.

Ms Kelly Long, Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications at SGX said, "The staff has been very enthusiastic about this project. As an Asian Gateway in the world of exchanges, we seek to reach out across the region through our community projects. I am encouraged by the tremendous support and contributions from our staff on the various CSR projects like the annual charity fun run for the financial industry - The Bull Run, and now, our first overseas community project." -http://info.sgx.com
