Kosovo's Prime Minister Agim Ceku has appealed to world powers to adopt a United Nations resolution that would clear the way for the province's independence.
Ceku said if no action is taken soon, Kosovo should be allowed to take its "own path."
Ceku made the remarks today after French President Nicolas Sarkozy suggested at the Group of Eight (G8) summit in Germany on June 7 that a decision on the UN resolution be delayed by six months.
The resolution, which endorses recommendations made by UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari, has the support of most UN Security Council members. But Russia, which has veto power, is calling for more negotations between Belgrade and Prishtina, although it has not said definitively that it would exercise that power in a Security Council vote.
