Update on Allergy Alert on Dark Belgian Chocolate Bar

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued the following update on the allergy alert issued earlier concerning undeclared milk protein in evasion no sugar added dark belgian chocolate bar

The previous public warning issued on May 24, 2007, has been updated to provide additional information on the distribution of the affected product (please see text in bold).

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Les Chocolats Lulu Inc. are warning people with allergies to milk protein not to consume Evasion No sugar added Dark Belgian Chocolate Bar. The affected product may contain milk protein which is not declared on the label.

The affected product, Evasion No sugar added Dark Belgian Chocolate, 56% Cocoa, is sold as a 35 g bar bearing UPC 7 73741 98342 9. All packages of this product are affected by this alert.

This product has been distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to milk protein.

The manufacturer, Les Chocolats Lulu Inc., Saguenay, Quebec, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
