"The Sopranos" is running since 1999 and its creator David Chase has shown to be playing against the viewer expectation. The last scene comes to prove his filmmaking strategy.
The final episode showed Phil Leotardo (Frank Vincent) crushed, who ordered Tony and funeral for his brother-in-law Bobby Bacala, who was shot at the time Leonardo ordered Tony.
Tony paid a hospital visit to Silvio Dante (Steven Van Zandt), who was also targeted by Leonardo, and a nursing home visit to his old Uncle Junior (Dominic Chianese).
The last scene showed a warm family dinner known for onion rings. Daughter Meadow (Jamie-Lynn Sigler), who canceled her law school, arrives the last, and show how unskilled she is in parking. A.J. (Robert Iler) still talking about his plans to join Army and go to fight in Afghanistan during the dinner, and Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) trying to persuade him become a filmmaker. And Tony's wife Carmela (Edie Falco) supports warm family atmosphere as usual.
So the last scene of "The Sopranos" was not a shocking one. It just showed that life's going on with all its good and bad sides, that all the difficulties are the must in every single family life. It seemed that the Sopranos will just keep living the same, but only behind the screens. For HULIQ.COM
