Because Michael Moore criticizes Bush administration's health policy in his documentary "Sicko", he may be investigated for the trip to Cuba he made for the film.
Attorney David Boies said that Moore has criticized President Bush in his books and films, including 2004's "Fahrenheit 9/11" and this year's "Sicko" scheduled for release on June 29.
"For this reason, I am concerned that Mr. Moore has been selected for discriminatory treatment by your office," Boies wrote.
Bush administration doesn't welcome Moore's critics, but it can't punish him for that. The main thing for Bush administration to investigate Moore is his travel to Cuba.
"I am requesting that you provide to me information regarding the person or persons who participated in making the decision to send Mr. Thompson's letter, the nature of the discussions that took place, and the knowledge your office had of Mr. Moore and his trip to Cuba at the time the letter was sent," Boies wrote.
But the trip to Cuba was not done without permission. Moore asked for permission from Treasury Department to travel with a filmmaking team and journalists. US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control now claims that Moore didn't get any response for his trip request.
Moore traveled to Cuba to get necessary health support for September 11th, 2001 rescue workers, who had suffered during that works. They had proper medical insurance, but were declined for medical treatment. Meanwhile, they were welcomed at Cuba and treated the way they really deserved.
Now Michael Moore is being investigated and there is a fear that Government will forbid "Sicko" to be released. But Moore has reserved a copy of the documentary, so the movie will not suffer at all.
"We brought back 15 minutes of the movie and we're concerned about any possible confiscation efforts," said Moore. "We took measures a few weeks ago to place a master copy of this film in Canada so if they did take our negative we would have a duplicate negative of this film in Canada."
