United States Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues Clint Williamson today said the prosecution of war crimes suspects from the former Yugoslavia remains one of the priorities of the U.S. administration.
Williamson made the statement during a visit to Sarajevo, where he met with members of Bosnia's tripartite state presidency. He said the United States seeks the prosecution of war crimes suspects for both political and security reasons.
The members of Bosnia's presidency agreed that war criminals must be brought to justice in order to advance reconciliation among Bosnia's ethnic groups.
Three people indicted for war crimes by International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague remain at large, including wartime Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic and his army commander, General Ratko Mladic.
