Seattle May Ban Microwave Popcorn

Lawmakers may consider microwave popcorn ban in the City of Seattle (government) buildings due to fire and smoke risks.

Seattle may ban microwave popcorn not because of any concerns about the weight of consumers, or health effects of chemicals used in manufacturing or packaging the stuff.

Seattle wants to ban microwave popcorn in certain city government buildings because occasionally some people overcook it and it burns.

But doesn't that happen with virtually all foods or only microwave popcorn?

If things don't improve, a popping prohibition could be imposed, officials told The Seattle Times for an article published Thursday.

"Perhaps what would happen is there'd be an underground market for microwave popcorn. People would sneak the microwaves into their offices; they'd do illicit popping," said Frank Video, a staff member for the Seattle City Council. - Source: Reprinted from The Arkanssouri Blog.
