Sony is planning to cut its PlayStation video game console price, but it still needs to decide by how much.
Sony's PlayStation main rivals in the video game market are Nintendo's Wii and Microsoft's Xbox, they are both more successful in their sales. The only result that PlayStation is behind it's the price.
"That price cuts is what we are studying at the moment. That's what we are trying to refine," said Sony CEO Howard Stringer.
Currently Wii costs $250, Xbox 360 costs $299 at Amazon.com and the same console with a 20-GB hard drive costs $399, Sony's PlayStation 3 costs $599 and is equipped with a 60-GB drive.
The most successful in the past month was Wii, because of its low price. Sony was initially oriented on hard gamers and they are very willing to pay the price for a better game. But those hard gamers are only a small part of the home market and the income from that part is not that big.
Stringer said: "Nintendo Wii has been a successful enterprise, and a very good business model, compared with ours "¦ because it's cheaper."Â
The main goal of PlayStation's rivals is to target larger market of not only hard gamers, but also those players who just need some fun and relax.
For winning the market Microsoft's Xbox also cut its price past month and announced intention to involve women by developing games that can be interesting for them.
Sony has already decreased PlayStation3 price by 20% in Japan just before its launch in November. Now it is considering the price cut, because consumers really want it. Still the video game consoles will stay the most expensive in the market, but this is must to stay in the market and try to beat the rivals. By Ruzan Harutyunyan For HULIQ
