White House Budget Chief Portman Resigns

Budget Director Rob Portman is resigning and President Bush intends to name former Iowa Rep. Jim Nussle as his replacement, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday.

Bush will announce the changes later Tuesday afternoon, said Office of Management and Budget spokesman Sean Kevelighan, according to Bloomberg News.

Portman, 51, has been Bush's budget director since April 2006 and before that was the U.S. trade representative. He also served six terms in the U.S. House representing Cincinnati and its suburbs, Bloomberg News reported.

Nussle, 46, left Congress and made an unsuccessful bid for governor of Iowa last year, Bloomberg News reported. Nussle is former chairman of the House Budget Committee. The budget director's job is given "Cabinet rank'' and Nussle's nomination is subject to Senate confirmation.-New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants
