Sony Promises 380 New Video Games For PlayStation

Sony announced to add about 380 new video games for PlayStation 3 by 2008 during the meeting with 7000 company shareholders.

PlayStation 3 owners will enjoy about 200 packaged new game titles and 180 new titles available via download. Currently there are 60 packaged and 50 downloadable games for the console.

In May Sony announced that PlayStation titles will include 'Warhawk,' 'Uncharted: Drake's Fortune,' 'SOCOM: Confrontation,' 'Heavenly Sword,' 'Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction,' 'Folklore,' 'The Eye of Judgement,' 'Transformers,' 'Harry Potter,' 'SingStar.' There are also 16 exclusive titles like 'Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow,' 'God of War: Chains of Olympus' and 'SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike.'

"We're about to see one for Sony, software-wise, just like we did with the Xbox 360 this past year. This additional choice, and welcome return of certain Sony-only franchises and other multiplatform greats, means the consumer who doesn't just want a Blue-ray player can now look forward to actual games," said David Hodges, author of some gaming guides.

He said, that in the next year Sony will come with about 400 new games, and this what any video game industry giant would do in a good year.

Since its release in 2006 PlayStation 3 has hot rivals in the market and according to the statistics the console is not that lucky, so these 380 more games are coming to make the competition hotter and to win the market for Sony.

Nintendo's Wii costs $250, Microsoft's Xbox 360 costs $299, Sony's PlayStation costs $499. US sales of Sony's video game console last month were 81,600, compared with 338,000 Wiis and 154,900 Xbox 360s.

What analysts think is that Sony has to cut PlayStation 3 price, because it's clear that the gamers are not that willing to purchase the console while there are cheaper consoles in the market.

The next point of the analysts is 'quality, not quantity'. The upcoming games must be high quality, because the quantity will not bring new gamers. The new PlayStation 3 must be unique and interesting to attract the existing video game console owners and make gamers to buy the console. For HULIQ.com
