The state Senate is expected to vote on a bill Thursday that would give the cash-strapped Roosevelt school district an interest-free loan to cover its $8-million deficit, Newsday reported.
Sen. Charles Fuschillo, R-Merrick, introduced a bill earlier this week to give the state-run district an advance in state aid, payable over 30 years, the paper reported.
"This is an advance of state aid payments they would have received normally," he said, according to the paper.
Assemb. Earlene Hooper, D-Hempstead, earlier had introduced a bill to transfer $8 million from the State Education Department's budget to Roosevelt. Fuschillo authored a companion to her bill in the Senate but said Wednesday that Hooper's plan wouldn't be feasible, the paper reported.- New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants
