Japan has donated a further CHF525,913 to the Doha Development Agenda Global Trust Fund
This donation will finance technical assistance programmes and training activities for developing and least developed countries as well as economies in transition. The aim is to better adapt their practices and laws to WTO rules and disciplines, improve the implementation of their obligations and enhance the exercise of their membership rights.
For 2007 only, Japan’s contribution to the DDAGTF amounts up to CHF648,499. This is Japan’s second donation this year. Earlier in March, Japan already offered CHF122,586 to finance a regional workshop on the TRIPS Agreement for French speaking African countries.
Overall, Japan’s contribution to the DDAGTF has reached more than CHF5 million.
WTO Director General Pascal Lamy declared “I welcome this new donation which demonstrate Japan’s constant commitment to help developing countries integrate in the global economy and take better advantage of the multilateral trading system.”
Japanese Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki stated “Japan has always been and will remain a strong supporter of the Doha Development Fund. This contribution reflects our strong commitments to provide assistance to developing countries to help them better participate in the multilateral trading system by assisting to promote a better understanding of the WTO rules.” -World Trade Organization
