For this year there are twelve new releases planned, one CD at the end of every month. Each CD is dedicated to the musical collaboration between the Vienna Philharmonic and a different conductor with whom the orchestra has enjoyed a fruitful artistic partnership. The opening CD was released on Jan 27th, Mozart's 250th birthday, with the live recording of a concert under Herbert von Karajan from the year 1987, followed in February with the recording of a concert with Riccardo Muti from 2002.
The series continues in March with the release of the recording of a concert under Karl Böhm in 1978. Until the end of the year the series will be augmented by recordings with Mariss Jansons, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Sir Simon Rattle, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Carlos Kleiber, Bruno Walter, Leonard Bernstein and Sir Georg Solti.
Needless to say that in the Mozart commemorative year, special attention will be given to the master from Salzburg. Each of the CDs to be released in 2006 will contain one composition of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
This special CD edition, produced with the assistance of the daily newspaper "kurier", and already attracting much attention from music enthusiasts, can also be purchased as a complete set with a collector's box through the "kurier" or at the E-Shop of the Vienna Philharmonic. The individual CDs can also be purchased at the ticket office of the Vienna Philharmonic, Kärntner Ring 12. Philharmonic subscribers receive a 10% reduction in price when they purchase at the ticket office.
