London car bomb could have resulted in massacre

A car full of explosives found early Friday morning in central London could have caused carnage if it had exploded, the head of Scotland Yard's counter terrorism branch said Friday.

Peter Clarke appraised the work of bomb disposal experts, who diffused a Mercedes full of fuel, gas cylinders, and nails, parked near a nightclub in Haymarket.

"It is obvious that if the device had detonated there could have been serious injury or loss of life," Clarke said that the information about the car came from an ambulance crew, which attended the nightclub on an emergency call and noticed the suspicious vehicle.

He said it was too early to say who was behind the incident, but the investigation will look at all possible options. - RIA Novosti
