The Shakespeare Theatre Company Introduces NEOS

The Shakespeare Theatre Company introduces neos, a program for Washington-area undergraduates that will act as a platform for building new audiences through the implementation of student-friendly ticket offers and special events. Undergraduate students at all Washington-area colleges are invited to join the neos community. Neos will be notified about Student Preview Week offers, deeply discounted tickets and invitations to priority events via e-newsletters and on-campus postings.

Two undergraduate students at each area university (American University, The Catholic University of America, George Mason University, Georgetown University, The George Washington University, Howard University, University of Maryland-College Park and others) will be appointed as über neos to act as direct liaisons to the Company and their campuses. Über neos are responsible for disseminating information on the Company's budget-friendly ticket offers, special events and audience-enrichment programming. In return, über neos and a guest are invited to donor-level events including First Rehearsals, Invited Dress Rehearsals, Opening Night parties and über neos events where they are invited to network with peers, local actors and Company staff.

Students from Howard University, The George Washington University and George Mason University are currently serving as über neos. Additional students from American University, The Catholic University of America, Georgetown University and the University of Maryland-College Park are needed during the spring 2007 semester.

Heralded as "the nation's foremost Shakespeare company" by The Wall Street Journal and "the best classical theatre in the country, bar none" by The Christian Science Monitor, the Shakespeare Theatre Company annually produces five plays in its 451-seat theatre in Washington, D.C.'s Pennsylvania Quarter and one free play in Rock Creek Park's 3700-seat Carter Barron Amphitheatre.

Artistic Director Michael Kahn has led the organization for 20 years, establishing a reputation for artistic excellence on stage as well as a series of community-minded education programs and, in 1999, the Academy for Classical Acting, a one-year MFA Acting program in conjunction with The George Washington University.
